Factories act, 1948, amended in 1987 provides guidelines and national policies concerning the health and safety of factory workers in India. This act is governed by the ministry of labour and employment of India by its Directorate General Factory Advice Service & Labour Institutes (DGFASLI) and by the State Governments through their factory inspectorates.

Is your factory covered under the Factories Act, 1948?

If your factory fulfills any one of the following conditions, then it is liable to get registered in the factories act, 1948:

Number of worker in the factory is 10 or more.
The factory does any of its operations with power (electricity) for at least one day in any financial year.
If the number of employees is 20 or more, and the factory does the operations without the power ,then also it is liable to get registered in the factories act 1948.

This will not include mines, restaurants, railway running shed, or a mobile unit occupied by the armed forces
